A very basic question about searching for my blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I just started this new blog a few weeks ago, and whenever I type into google either terms from my blog’s name (like shoecloset, shoe closet) or even when I type in the entire thing: http://shoecloset.wordpress.com, my site doesn’t show up at all. If I search for tags that I have put into posts of mine, those posts will sometimes show up in google, but not when I search by the name of my blog. If that makes any sense at all. What do I have to do so that if someone types “shoe closet” or even just “shoe” or “closet” they will see my blog pop up as a hit in google? Do I have to add something or is that just how it goes?
Also, what are the best ways to bring in some more traffic??

Thanks so much for your help!!

It takes a while for Google and the other search engines to figure out exactly where to put you in their indexes, but your site is on google. Just put in “site:http://shoecloset.wordpress.com” and you will see that they have indexed a number of your posts already.

    For “shoe” google returns 107,000,000
    For “closet” google returns 54,200,000
For “shoe closet” google returns 787,000

It takes a while to build pagerank with search engines and to show up on the front page of searches, you have to have tens of thousands of hit per day. Keep blogging, put out quality original content and your page rank will grow.

Also take a look at Timethief’s post in this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/new-to-blogging-2?replies=8 . There is also a link to her blog in that thread and it contains bunches of very useful information for bloggers.
