A way to prevent this.

Hi. Just wondering, is their any way to prevent everything you post in your blog catagorys from poping up on your blogs homepage?

Futz around with the widgets. Drag and drop them around, under the Presentation -> Widgets tab.

    That won’t help at all.

You can try making sub-categories (do a search for subcategories and follow the instructions) or you can take the Categories widget out of the sidebar.

Or do you mean you want to hide the posts themselves? You can’t. You can password-protect them one by one if you want.

No, i just ment keep them viewable under their respective catagorys, yet keep every little thing i post in my blog from streamlining it’s way onto the top of the front page where it’s not wanted.

No, you can’t keep posts off the Blog page, but you CAN set a static front page. All you have to do is write a page instead of a post and, under Options->General set that page to be the front page of the blog.

For technical reasons, this hurts your search engine ranking. Search engines like to see the front page of a site updated all the time, which is why blogs outrank static websites in searches.

so…. your saying doing that will kind of replace my home page with a never changing page? If so, i’m in. Not to worried about search engine’s. (at the moment.)

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok, I got it now. Thanks for the help.

  • Unknown's avatar

You’re welcome. Lots of people do things that way, so you’re not alone.

Hey rain, think you could answer one more thing for me. now that i’ve set a static page as my home page, I have the theme contempt set as my template for the blog, and I was wondering if their is any way to prevent this page ( my new home page) from poping up in the top colum. (Where your list of pages are displayed.)

    Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

Nope, no way to prevent it short of buying the CSS upgrade and making it invisible. I wouldn’t worry about it: just call it Front or something like that.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok, i’ll try and screw around with the name, see if I can make it less noticable.

P.S. I know I ask way to many questions, but about what you said before about removing the catagorys link from the sidebar. Did you mean the left or the right sidebar. (EX: the right sidebar is where I can add aditional widgets, but the left was their when I got my blog.) Which were you talking about?

  • Unknown's avatar

Wherever you have the Categories widget, take it out. But if I were you I’d leave it in, because otherwise people won’t be able to navigate around your blog very easily. If they click on your categories or tags on the post, they’ll automatically go to the Global Tag pages, off your blog. If you use the categories widget, they will stay on your blog if they click on the categories in the widget. Much better for you to keep your readers on the blog.

And now I’m off to bed. Pulled an all-nighter thanks to my independently-hosted blogs being offline for two days.

Thanks, and I won’t ask you anything else, your not going to be their and all…..
