    Hello wordpress,
My friend Devin is looking for an accessible (for screen readers) app for his windows computer that he can blog on wordpress with. You guys are good at making stuff accessible so… do you know of anything? And if not, can you please make a blogging software that would be accessible for him?

    Thanks,
    Steven.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ll tag this thread for a Staff response. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

P.S. I do know that everything on the screen can be read aloud by a program called JAWS but that’s all I know. http://www.freedomscientific.com/products/fs/jaws-product-page.asp

We do our best to make WordPress (both the hosted version on WordPress.com and the free version for self-hosted blogs at WordPress.org) as accessible as possible. We know it’s not perfect yet, but we’re always working to improve accessibility on our platform. We have a number of visually-impaired users all over the globe who blog with WordPress, and sites built in WordPress can meet advanced accessibility standards if the web designers put some effort into design and functionality choices along the way.

Because of the community element of WordPress development, we rely on users to help provide feedback on accessibility issues. We have a blog at http://make.wordpress.org/accessibility/ that is for people interested in getting more involved.

I’d recommend your friend give it a try either here or with a self-hosted version, and find out if it it will work for him.

To decide better between the options (hosting on WordPress.com or elsewhere) we have the following page:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
