abandon old ‘free’ site and startup new site with personal plan

I set up a free website as an experiment for someone else, but the need for that has passed. I would now like to abandon or remove that site and set up a new one with a different name and upgrade my service to a ‘personal’ plan, while keeping my current account.

  • Hi there,

If you no longer want a free site in your account you can delete it, or you can just set it to private if you think you might want to use the address again in future, but don’t want it publicly available on the web in the meantime.

You’ll find the options to do both these things at My Site ->Manage ->Settings.

Also note you can create as many sites in your account as you want – there’s no need to first get rid of your current site before you can create a new one.

To create a new site in your account, just go to https://wordpress.com/start/site/ and follow the steps on the screen.

Excellent! Thanks kokkieh. I was hoping it was simple. I’m obviously just getting started!
