Abandonded web site

    About 5 or 6 years ago, I inquired about an abandoned website on WordPress.com
    There have been no entries on the site I am looking to use other than the individual creating the homepage with a default site.
    Is there any way, the owner can be contacted to see if they will relinquish the site?
    I would really like that URL. The site has had no updates ever.
    Can the site be removed via the back end and allowed to be used by someone who wants to make udpates?

    Hi there, WPcom sites do not have an expiry date regardless of the last time the site owner posted.

    If you find a WPcom website that is no longer being used, you can try leaving a note in an open comment or contact form. If the site owner replies positively, they can follow this guide to transfer ownership of the site to you: https://wordpress.com/support/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

    If you do not receive a reply or the reply is negative, nothing further can be done.
