Ability to archive (meaning completely hide) year-old posts!!!
-
I’m reviving an old blog and would love to archive (read: hide) the really old posts without completely removing them from the blog. WordPress.com is the only place I’m aware of that considers organizing posts by date ‘archiving’ and doesn’t offer a true method of archiving old posts.
I discovered several WordPress plugins that would enable me to do that except that I can’t use plugins with WordPress.com! Can someone please address this crucial need? How is there no other way to hide old posts without deleting them? It’s awful!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, of course, they still have to appear in the blog, but you do not have to provide a custom menu tab to that specific category. You can create a custom menu and exclude that category from the menu.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/Over time the new posts on the main page for posts will drive the others down the column.
You can also set how many posts you want to display on the main page for posts at > Dashboard > Settings > Reading.

If you want to hide a Post from everyone but yourself and any other logged in users – set the Post to “Private” – then you can read it but normal visitors & search engines can’t see them

Thanks timethief, though ideally I don’t want the posts to remain on the page. I know that new posts will drive the others down but I don’t want visitors getting distracted by posts that are over a year old lingering on the blog alongside posts from today.
Thanks auxclass – I guess I’ll give that a shot.
