Ability to change font size
-
I think it would greatly benefit me and my blog readers if I could change the font size of my blog posts. I’m currently using the Ocean Mist theme and the font size by default is quite small. To make matters worse, I sometimes blog in Mandarin. And the font size can only be described as miniscule. And it’s not very convenient for me and my readers as they have to keep enlarging the page just to read my posts.
What I don’t get is, why are we only allowed to change something as simple as the font size only if we pay for the upgrade?
-
You can change your fonts, sizes and colors on a post by post basis as shown here in the FAQ’s http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/12/can-i-change-my-font-font-size/
In addition, your readers can change the font sizes through their browser by pressing ctrl and the “+” key on windows, or cmd and the “+” key on mac, to make them larger.

I did not purchased the CSS upgrade. I do not understand why something as simple as the font size can’t even be changed if I do not pay for the service. Isn’t the ability to change font size a pretty standard function?
-
You don’t have to pay for the CSS upgrade. You just have to go into the code and make a few changes. That’s what thesacredpath is saying. It’s a bit messy but once you’ve done it a couple of times, it’s dead easy.
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/12/can-i-change-my-font-font-size/The problem with font size (and different fonts) is that not every computer uses the same fonts. So if you were to use one or a size that I can’t support, it might not display the blog properly. That’s why WP doesn’t make it standard. Also the formatting can be troublesome; think about what happens if you paste from Word, can you imagine having to fix that with every post. Ouch. :)
-
Oh… I do know how to change the HTML codings. But even after I enlarged the text, it doesn’t show on my actual post. The font size remains unchanged. Is it the theme problem? Or is it some kinda bug? Sorry, I’m really new in WordPress. =S

quote from the faq link given above:
# You cannot change the default font your theme uses. If you want to do this, you must do this all the time. It cannot be made easier at this point
# We cannot alter a theme to accommodate your choice of font size. Please bear in mind that if we alter a theme for you then that alters the same theme for everyone else. They probably won’t like that happening.the font size is fixed as such in the theme you’ve chosen. some themes would show the different sizes when you switch themes.
-
Oh…so there’s no point in trying to change the font size? -_-
Oh well, thanks a lot for your help though. -

Oh…so there’s no point in trying to change the font size?
There are two methods of changing font size and both have been discussed in this thread in an effort to answer your question correctly.
(1) You can change the font size post by post.
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/12/can-i-change-my-font-font-size/(2) You can purchase a css upgrade and change font size throughout the blog for all posts.
http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/10/18/about-the-custom-css-upgrade/It only costs $4 cents per day to get the $15 css customization upgrade for one blog for one year. By purchasing that upgrade you can effect the font size change that you want throughout the blog, if this is important to you you do know how to proceed to make the required change. And, if it’s not that important to you then you can change the font size manually on each post/page.
That means your statement is in error because there are two ways you can make font size changes at wordpress.com.
-
Uhm… Well, if I’m not mistaken, we have to change our font size manually by changing the html codings right?
Eg.
<font size="2">text</font>Something like this? I did this to my posts, but the font didn’t change at all. I wonder what went wrong…
Oh wait, did sulz mean that the theme I have chosen is unable to show the changes?
-
That’s what sulz is saying. Most themes will be more flexible than that, though, so test it out on a different one. You can always switch back!
It’s possible as well that you didn’t see the changes because you were looking at a cached version of the page. Try again on the theme you have now, and this time when you view the page clear your browser cache and do a forced reload. This forces your browser to look at the very newest version of the page, instead of a saved up one. Some browsers look at cached pages to save loading time. If it’s still not changing size, you’ll probably have to change theme.
-
Sorry. Guess I was a lil blur when I read sulz’s reply. I cleared all my cache and the font still remained the same! :( Guess it’s time to change themes then. Pity, because I really liked the Ocean Mist theme.
-
-
Perhaps some of the old hands could answer the question another way – which of the themes uses a large font?
And which uses a clear font, such as the one that is appearing here?
Thanks
-
PS as my post flicked up above, it reduced in size considerably. Probably 40% of the internet user community will find that difficult to read.
-
We can all increase the font size as it appears to us on a Windows system by simply holding down the crtl key and simultaneously clicking the plus sign key until it’s a size we are comfortable with.

OOPs! I just noticed that the sacredpath supplied the instructions in the first post in the thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=17129&page&replies=17#post-128033

@scotchcart
I am visually impaired and always increase the font size on whatever I’m viewing on the internet. I’m familiar with most themes and I have tested several themes on my test blog but not all of them. It seems to me that the theme called “Rounded” may have the larger font size you are looking for. However, your readers can increase the font size as thesacredpath has explained above on any theme so they can see it better.
HTH :)
