Ability to sort items that are located within any given section

Can one sort items within a given section of the site (e.g. those stored as Photographs/Images)? If so, what is the cue for sorting them – for example, when one captions photographs, could the sort be based on the first word (or alternately the first two words) of the captions? If not, what content is used to request the particular sort one is seeking?

Hi,
Can one sort items within a given section of the site (e.g. those stored as Photographs/Images)?
Yes, but it depends what kind of items we’re talking about. Posts, pages, custom menu items, images in a gallery, items in a list, items in a standard WordPress.com widget, child pages in a grid template, etc. — the ways and means of sorting these are various, independent of each other, and in some cases theme-dependent.
for example, when one captions photographs, could the sort be based on the first word (or alternately the first two words) of the captions?
I’m not aware of any way of sorting photographs in a gallery, or elsewhere, by the alphnumeric order of captions.
If not, what content is used to request the particular sort one is seeking?
Do you mean what content of images in a gallery is used in sorting?

Is there a way to speak with a WordPress staff member by phone for a technical consultation question?
