Able to link images in galleries

  Hey, I have this suggestion
  I absolutely love the gallery (especially mosaic) function, but I’m missing a way to have my images linked to an external URL.
  I’d love to see this happening!

  Way from 2014… and topic is closed without a solution? Implementing this function is long overdue!

  Apparently implementing such a change in the way the Gallery functions means changing something in core WordPress, according to Staff reply there https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/link-gallery-images-to-pages-and-or-posts-or-external-url/page/2?replies=107#post-2124284 Seems unlikely that will happen.

  But you know what, with the introduction of Calypso, maybe this topic should be revisited by Staff. I’ve tagged this for their attention.

  Tagged for Staff and then subsequently untagged by them, so apparently no change in Gallery link function expected in Calypso.
