Ablereach click spam

  • Unknown's avatar

Top of the Clicks statistics list on my WordPress.com blog is an outgoing link to ablereach.com/private/… The link goes to a private site that requires a login and the root site is a web hosting site. I’ve searched my blog thoroughly and find no outgoing link to this site. I find nothing in comment spam either.

Anyone else getting the same style of link in their Blog Stats > Clicks list? Is this a new kind of trackback spam or something?

    Thanks.

My money is on the planet wordpress RSS feed. You’ve had a few links in there recently.

This is so bizarre. I found the link in one of my future posts. It posted the next day, with one full day at least after I started getting all those outgoing clicks. The link is dead now, though it was working two weeks ago, and everyone reading the article clicked it. That made it appear in the Clicks, but why it appeared before the post published is another issue I’ll have to dig into and see if I can reproduce it.

    Confusing. Thanks!

    Hello Lorelle!

I found your comment when going through old Google Alerts. I don’t know how I could have created a comment on one of your unpublished posts, though I do have an answer to your dead link quandry.

I sometimes set up test blogs in password protected folders. In my experiments I often make test posts consisting of notes to myself with links to interesting resources. It’s possible that I made a test post containing a note to myself about a resource from your blog. If I forgot to disable pinging before clicking the save button, you would have had a trackback link to a soon-to-be-gone URL.

Now, isn’t that nicer to think about than the possibilities you were worrying over?
