About CSS upgrading

I can’t find any information about the following:

If I upgrade to modify an existing theme, will the text “Blog at WordPress.com. • Theme: xx by xx” disappear then?

I wouldn’t want to pay for a website that so obviously ain’t “mine”.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m afraid it wouldn’t disappear automatically, but you could hide it via CSS.

But you can’t REMOVE things in the CSS sheet? Only add?

You can actually choose to just use your own CSS – there are two options on the Edit CSS Page:

    • Add this to the [your current] theme’s CSS stylesheet
    • Start from scratch and just use this

If you’re hosted at WordPress.com, then it is “yours” really. Removing that link, and the link to the original theme designer whose work you’ve modified, are considered very poor etiquette. Besides, unless you’ve also paid for the No Ads upgrade, Adsense on your blog that may be startlingly inappropriate can only be blamed on WP.com as long as people can tell that WP.com is hosting your blog.

It’s the other way around, kinda. You can “remove” by hiding elements. You can “add” but text only; however, only modern browsers support this feature. For example, if someone browses your blog using IE6, then that person won’t see the text you’ve added.
