About custom design for fonts?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am paying for “Custom Design” since nearly a year. This upgrade will expire on 7 mars, 2015, and I have thought about upgrading to premium instead.
But I have some issues before I decide what to do.

During this year I have not been able to change my fonts like I hoped to. I have tried several times to use more fonts from “Adobe Typekit” But it doesn’t work for me.

    On this page …
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/
    … I found this text:
“Can I connect a Typekit.com account to my WordPress.com blog?
We no longer support connecting an outside Typekit.com account to a WordPress.com blog as of Nov 2013. We made this change so that we can focus on making one set of simple-to-use tools in Appearance → Customize → Fonts, which includes a selection of Typekit fonts, instead of maintaining two sets of separate tools. Blogs that currently have a Typekit.com account connected using the Advanced Mode for fonts may continue using that connection, but new Custom Design users no longer have the option to connect an outside font account.”

Does this mean that I am paying for something that I can not use?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

That snippet from our support document refers to a previous TypeKit integration that we supported. You can still change your fonts to any of the ones listed in the drop down menus in the Fonts pane of the Customizer:

    https://imitttankerum.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php

I see you’re currently using custom fonts, which I see on your site:

Do you not see those fonts?

    Hi!
Yes, I see those fonts :)
… and I am quite satisfied with the fonts for headlines, wich are a nice selection, with great variety.

But when it comes to fonts for the main content there are not much to choose from. In number they are, but not in variety. All of them are very similar to each other. Nothing that feels the least exciting.
But all the fun stuff are reachable on the page of “custom design”, through the link to “Adobe Typekit” … but not useable?
So if it’s there, why can I not use it?

If the choises in the selectable list is the only fonts to use, the design-possibilities are very limited when it comes to this?
I would really like some more fonts for the main contents.

I love wordpress. It is reliable and stable. But some things feels unnecessarily limited. This is one of them.

    regards
    Louise

    A small question :)
When I contact support, do I need to use english? Is it possible to write in swedish?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi Louise!

We limit the fonts in order to keep the lists manageable. TypeKit has so many fonts and if we included them all you would hardly be able to get through the list. If there’s a particular font that you’re interested in that isn’t listed, I can pass it along to our developers. I’ll be honest with you though, I don’t think there are any plans to change our font offerings in the foreseeable future.

When I contact support, do I need to use english? Is it possible to write in swedish?

We technically only offer support in English, but we’re pretty effective at using Google Translate and our polyglot coworkers for non-English threads. If you write in Swedish, we’ll likely still respond in English. (I don’t think we have a happiness engineer who speaks Swedish anymore. So while another coworker may help us translate, an English-speaking HE will respond.)

We also have a Swedish forum available here:

Okej, and I’m fine with this answer :)
But if I could have a wish when it comes to the fonts for the main content/text …
The number of fonts is ok, but it would be very nice if it was a larger variation between them. It would be wonderful and more than enough if approximately 5-6 fonts was exchanged for something more exciting?

I give you this as a requests from me … :)
WordPress is so amazing that I think it deserves a little more personal, fun and stylish fonts …

    Thanks for “listening” :D

    Oh … one more thing.

If one could paste text from Word, which has many good fonts, then it would resolve itself. I’ve tried and I got some text with the fonts I chose, but it disappeared completely after I updated the post a couple of times ???
    Strange?

    Hi Louise,

I’ll definitely pass that along! :)

If one could paste text from Word, which has many good fonts, then it would resolve itself. I’ve tried and I got some text with the fonts I chose, but it disappeared completely after I updated the post a couple of times ???

This is likely because of the span tags used when copying from Microsoft Word. You could try experimenting with the font-family CSS style if you’d like. But, keep in mind that any font you set up that way will be loaded from the reader’s computer. Try to choose fonts that both Windows and Mac come pre-loaded with. :)
