About domain names

    Hello. If I sign up for a domain name and it has expired, will it revert back to its old free ‘blogname.wordpress.com’ format? Or does it mean that I basically have to renew/pay forever to keep it from disappearing? Thanks.

    Hi there,

    Yes, if your site is hosted at WordPress.com and the custom domain expires, the content will be available at a free site address. If the site is hosted elsewhere such as Bluehost, Hostgator, etc. you’d need to back up your content before the domain expires otherwise you’d risk losing your content.
