About HTTPS in Search Console

Now that all my blogs have HTTPS protocol and they are being redirected from HTTP to HTTPS, do I need to add HTTPS version of my websites in Google Search Console?

I did this with one of my blogs and strangely my HTTP site is showing much-much less search traffic (in Search Console) than HTTPS version of the same site.

One more thing: How can I add and verify the www. versions of my custom domain blogs in Search Console?

I forgot mentioning that all my WordPress.com blogs are running on custom domains.

  • do I need to add HTTPS version of my websites in Google Search Console?

I’m not sure how Google chooses to handle that, but I know many sites recognize http and https as being the same site. If the console still works for your other sites, you’d be welcome to leave it as is or add the https version.

You won’t be able to. We use a 301 redirect to send any traffic from www to the main domain. That keeps Google from penalizing you for duplicate content.

I found huge drop in searches in my HTTP blog in Search Console. Then I added sites using HTTPS and found everything okay.

Now my HTTP site is showing less than 10 searches per day whereas the same site in HTTPS is showing regular search traffic (over 1000 per day) in Search Console.

  • We’re automatically sending traffic from http to https, so really you shouldn’t see very many hits for http at all.
