About images and Pages
-
I have spent 3 days trying to understand but here are some stumbling blocks which despite hard work I cannot fathom:-
I want my Blog to be static, that is as a show case for my artwork.
Is there any special advice section on doing this ?Page one seems to be stuck with a replies section for blogging, also a Categories heading and which in your help section it says ‘Pages outside the blog section cannot be categorised.
SO, Can I get rid of the Categories heading? And the replies panel?I add an image to my front page text and want to shift it a bit but although it looks as if you can it bounces back to the first position which seems a bit arbitrary. Sizing is no problem, but positioning is. Someone asking the same question on the Forum did not receive relevant advice.
Any tips on this?Found the magic ‘toggle screens button’, and resizing system for photos…but cannot reposition picture eg up a bit or down a bit?? This is important if stuff is to look good.
My first page was too long so I wanted to use the ‘more’ option. I edited the page, deleted the bottom half, added the ‘more ‘ option and then added the lower part of the text, saved it etc but it doesn’t show up on the Blog…the whole page remains there. I have just seen that you ‘cannot use the MORE button for PAGES’. Surely there must be some way?
I downloaded Typekit but it seems that you need specialised knowledge to access it (that is, no dropdown menu for it when writing)

Also I can’t see anyway of organising a gallery of differently proportioned pics (prints), not for lack of hours of trial and error. Maybe it is impossible…in which case some-one PLEASE tell me.
And why is there no simple system of page order?
I have spent 4 days now searching for things that should exist, but maybe don’t.
I feel quite defeated.
I wiuld be grateful for help. -
Hi. Are you referring to juliamatcham.wordpress.com? That blog is private, so in the blind, we would be unable to answer your question.
Any chance of making that blog temporarily public (or “search engines blocked”) so that one of us volunteers can take a look? Otherwise, if you could at least tell us what theme you are using, that would help a little.
In the meantime, you may want to look at the following support documents:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/

OK I will do that (make it public) now. Thank you for replying.
I started using Twenty Ten then changed it to Blix to see how different the possibilities were …As far as a gallery is concerned looks much the same…maybe I have to learn to use the dreaded code in order to move items to where I want them???? My prints are different sizes/ proportions.
I will look again but I have checked ALL support and then some!
Why on earth there is no simple numbering system for pages is a mystery. I have looked for hours. OK I only have two pages at the moment (I deleted one rather thqan fight to get it in the right place) but can see how to add more BUT not how one might reorganise them.
Anyway I will make it public and hope no -one looks! -
I didn’t look, and know virtually nothing about Galleries, but take a look through these posts: the author is a bit of a specialist in Galleries:

Thanks. My question is did she accomplish all that without recourse to using HTML ? I want something simpler, but I need to know what is POSSIBLE, rather than spending too much time discovering that it can’t be done. IF I need to know some HTML I guess, old though I am, my brain still works!
Last two January’s I have had a go at all this only to have to give up. This time I would like to achieve something!
Cheers, Julia -
Julia,
Wha’s possible is expressed here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
and here > gammagirl -Not the Official WordPress.com Gallery FAQ. > http://gammagirl.wordpress.com/?s=not+the+FAQs -
THANKS! I am digesting info from gammagirl like a thirsty man (well, woman) in the desert!
Some of it one can learn by trial and error. There seems to be a difference between uploading a lot to a page directly rather than one at a time from Media Library which seems more designed to accompany text pages.
Anyway this is the 5th consecutive day and copious notes later…but not much achieved! But press on.
