about me and blog

    Hi:
How do I create separate tabs for “about me” and “blog.” I want to have 2 separate sections for these sections.
Also, my theme is Alvin Woon’s “Supposedly Simple” and on the right hand margin there’s a blurb about the author not saying much about himself. Thing is, I just described myself in 350 words, so how can I remove that?
Thanks. The learning curve for wordpress is so long. I’m trying my best to navigate around, a bit frustrating! :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What I’d like to see are 2 tabs on top: About Me and Blog. That’s all. Thanks for quick reply!

Whether a theme has top navigation or not is theme dependent. Some themes have it and some do not. The theme you are using does not have it. Also, some themes will show a “home” or “blog” or “front page” link in the top navigation, and some will not. Again it is theme dependent and was the choice of the theme author. There is really no way to add top navigation to theme that does not originally have it.

What you can do is put the “pages” widget into the sidebar which will show your about page and any other pages you create.

The other option is to switch to a theme that does have top navigation. As far as a “blog” link most themes use either the blog title or/and the header as a link back to the main page.

OK, thanks sacredpath. If I tried to learn CSS and bought it from wordpress, would I be able to alter at least a few themes?

No, top navigation would require access to the underlying theme PHP files – as well as a good level of expertise with PHP script programming – and we do not have access to the underlying files. This is a multi-user platform which means we all use the same underlying files so any changes made to any theme would change things for everyone using that theme.

I took the Garland theme with top navigation and reworked it just using CSS. I feel like a pro now ;) If I can do it, you can too. I had zero experience a week ago. Start another blog, don’t publish it, and practice. Practice a lot. Good luck.
