‘About Me’ section disapeared

  I just got a blog and can’t seem to access the ‘about me’ section. When I go into the ‘profile’ section and add information it doesn’t show up on the published site. Also, the area on the front page that links to the ‘about me’ section is gone. Do I need to start over?

  At wordpress.com the themes come from different designers. Some themes are coded to show a brief “about” bio in the top of the sidebar as a default. The information comes for this page -> Users -> Your Profile. When you place widgets in the sidebar then the default “bio” ( About) disappears.

  Other themes do not have this default “about” feature at all. However, in all case we can create “About” pages where we can have a bio and a statement of what our blogs are about.

  Please give me a link to your blog so I can see the theme you have and walk you through this step by step.

  Okay here is a walk-through on how to create an “About Page”.
  -> Dashboard -> Write -> Page
  Write your text and click “Publish”

  Now -> Dashboard -> Presentation-> Widgets
  Look for the Pages widget in the “Available widgets” box, drag it out and drop it into the “Sidebar Widgets” box and click “Save Changes”

  View your blog and you should see the About page as well as a link to it in your sidebar where you placed the Pages widget.

  Note that there is a difference between pages and posts http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/11/a-post-and-a-page/

  Pages are for static content. They do not automatically update. You cannot assign categories to them and they have no google juice.

  Just for reference, the URL for your blog is http://debralouise.wordpress.com/ Using the ‘www’ in this case is incorrect. The ‘debralouise’ bit takes the place of the ‘www’. To use both, 30% of the net and all major search engine spiders will not be able to use such a link.

  And the Profile, which you fill out on the Dashboard, is not the info on the About page; it’s your blogging profile for WordPress. They’re totally separate things.
