“about” not found on google, but everything else does.
-
i am confused.
my “about” information does not appear on google (or any other search engine). even if i put a whole sentence in quotes, “I am also a Reiki Master and work as a therapist in Manhattan, in my private practice and a cancer center” for example, the search engine will tell me that there are no results. i only have this problem with “about”, search engines do find my posts. is this because it’s on a different ‘page’ (not sure of the terminology)? how can i remedy this situation? -
Pages are not indexed the same as posts. You may want to verify your site in Google. http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/08/08/how-do-i-verify-my-site-with-google/

thanks vivian.
i verified my site the way it’s described in the faq link you gave me. i still have the same problem (my site appears, but the ‘about’ page doesn’t). i am guessing i need to give it more time. -
Yes, you probably do need to wait. I understand that static content pages are simply not indexed the same as dynamic content.

so… i have waited and i am afraid to say that the problem is not resolved. everything on my site can be found with search engines, except for my ‘about’ page. (i have just checked another wordpress blog whose ‘about’ page content is not found on google either. could this be a wordpress specific ‘page’ problem?) am thankful for any explanations/suggestions.

You’re blog is only 7 days old (first post on Aug 25). You are actually very lucky to be showing on google at all at this point. I’ve seen it take 8 or 9 weeks for a blog to show up in the search engines.
Once a site is verified via Google, you are put on a list along with hundreds of thousands of others for their spiders to crawl. They do not drop everything to rush out and crawl your site, and it could be many weeks before they crawl your entire site.

thanks, sacredpath.
(i assume you meant 7 weeks?)
okay. so i will wait 2 more weeks and see if google finds my entire site then…
patience patience, right? -
Ah, is it October already? Yes, that would be 7 weeks. The search engines actually crawl sites a bit at a time, and on each visit, they look at your main page first. They will get to it.
If you have the opportunity in one of your upcoming posts, link back to your about page from within the new post. That will give the spiders a link to the page and they might actually crawl it right then.

Static pages have so much less SEO that I would not expect them to appear anywhere near as high in a Google search as blog posts. I have over a hundred comments on my About page, so it’s been pretty active, but I’ve still never yet seen it on Google.
