About page is showing on every page.

How do I stop the about page from being in the right column on every page. I just want it to stay on the about page. Thanks

Hi,
Please identify the website that you are referring to. Is it a WordPress.com website? -
Thank you, Musicdoc1
Yes, it is a wordpress.com website. Here it is: https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/

You’re welcome. The Andreas04 theme info page indicates that the theme is retired, and that it has been replaced by the Able theme. The Andreas04 demo includes the “About” page in the sidebar, though I’m not sure why. Do you have a widget titled “About” in your sidebar widget area?

Found the solution. I was finally able to duplicate the About page in the sidebar in an old undeveloped site. The reason why it failed to show on the first two sites I tested was because the About page had been deleted, or its URL modified. Just modifying the URL is enough to remove it from the sidebar.
For example, if you were to change the slug in the permalink of the About page from “about” to “about-site,” or anything other than “about” the page in the sidebar will disappear like magic.
-
In other words, change the URL https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/about/ to https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/something-else/.
-
Perhaps, by default, in the theme there’s an invisible widget in the sidebar area , which needs the “about” slug to keep it activated. Strange.

You’re welcome. Changing the slug (which changes the URL) will have no effect upon the page content. It will have an effect upon links to the page, for example at Google, links to the page either internal or in other websites, etc. Google will eventually make the correction, dropping links to the obsolete URL.

If you’d like to continue to look for a solution that doesn’t require a modification of a page URL, you may also invite staff to help by adding a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic.
-
I changed the name of the page to about-site as you suggested but the preview keeps it the same as before.
-
I have no idea on how to add a modlook tag. You are dealing with a novice on programming.

Changing the name of the page won’t do it. The fix I discovered and described above requires changing the slug “about” in the About page URL to something else. For example, change https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/about/ to https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/about-1/.

If you decided to call for staff attention:
1. Scroll up or down on this thread until you can see the box in the right sidebar marked “Tags.”
2. Enter the word “modlook” (without quotation marks) into the box.
3. Click the Add button. -
I guess I don’t know how to change the url as what I have tried from the edit page doesn’t work.

Hi there,
The Andreas04 theme you’re using always displays the contents of this page in the sidebar:
https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/about/
The last part of the URL, about, is called the page slug. You can change that page slug to something other than “about” and the page’s contents won’t appear in the sidebar. We have have a support page all about Slugs with details about how to change that.
When you open your page in the editor, you can go to the “Advanced Settings” section in the sidebar. Under “Slug” you can enter a new page slug (like “about-me” or “about-site” or anything other than “about”) to change it. Then, update your page to save that change.
Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

When I go to pages and click on edit the about page I do not have an advanced settings showing up. There is a link showing the url, but when I edit to add a -1 to it and preview it there is no change. What am I doing wrong?
-
Hi there,
The options I mentioned are available when you edit the page from your list of pages here:
https://wordpress.com/pages/publiushuldah.wordpress.com
If you’re editing that page from your WP Admin dashboard, you can edit the slug using the “Edit” button next to “Permalink: https://publiushuldah.wordpress.com/about/” under your page title.
In that case, be sure to click “OK” and then click the blue “Update” button to save your changes to that page.
-
Why can’t I preview it so I can make sure I am not messing up the entire page and losing all the content.
