about page not showing up in all themes

I’m starting a blog and trying to get the kinks worked out – depending on the theme I choose the about page will show up or not. Is there a way to get it to show up on themes that don’t automatically have it? Thank you.

Actually very few themes have an “About” section displayed in the default sidebar. When widgets are added then these brief biographies disappear.
(1) You can create an About page for any theme -> Write -> Pages
(2) Alternatively you can use a text widget and place the About information in it to display in your sidebar. -

I’ve tried the widget approach but About wasn’t an available widget.
The About page already exists, I just don’t know how to make it show up as a link on home if it’s not part of a theme.
Also my links show up as Blogroll which they techinically aren’t. I have a lot of catching up to do.
I’ll play around and hope for more comments. Thanks again.

You need to add the “Pages” widget to your sidebar.
The links show up under category titles (for most themes), so if you don’t want them called “Blogroll”, you need to change the category they’re assigned to.

(1) Some themes have “Page” tabs and others don’t so that’s why judy is telling you to put your Pages widget in your sidebar -> Presentation -> Widgets
find the Pages widget in the “available Widgets” box and drag it over to the “Sidebar” box and drop it where you want it. Then click “Save Changes”.(2) There is no “About” widget. Judy is brilliant. I’m just the workhorse type. So on my own behalf – thanks for the thanks and happy blogging. Although it’s a learning curve, I’m pretty sure that you will love wordpress once you’ve settled in.
