About sponsors
-
Hello everyone,
I’m here on behalf of a relative of mine that recently started a blog. She is the host of a cooking show on a local channel here in our city, and decided to start a blog about it, and as she isn’t very tech-savy she just started building it and upgraded to a premium account (for more customization and removing ads) before consulting with anyone.
The problem is that, while she is building the site by herself, whithout help neither from the TV channel nor from sponsors, the show itself IS sponsored and she’d like to add banners and links about them. She was unaware of the no sponsor banners policy (and, to be fair, she didn’t even know wordpress.org and wordpress.com were different things… I actually became aware of how she was handling this when she asked me for my opinion on a wordpress.org theme she wanted to install), so I’d like some clarifications about our current options:1- If she upgrades to Enterprise will she be allowed to put sponsor banners on her site? Or, since they do not sponsor the blog per se, would it be okay for her to put them up with her current premium status?
2- If she gets a self hosted website with wordpress(.org) installed, will she be able to reclaim the two domains she aquired and redirect them to the new site?
If possible, I’d rather have her stay on wordpress.com, since, as I said earlier, she isn’t very tech-savy and it would probably be better for her to not have to deal with hosting too.
Thanks in advance

1) banners are not allowed – they are considered ads
2) yes – just point the name servers to your new host – after 60 days (internet rules) a domain name can be transferred to a different registrar if you want
If she bought the upgrade less than 30 days ago she can get a full refund on everything except the domain name registration (it has 48 hour window)

Thanks for the fast reply =) I just have a few more questions
1 – If she upgrade to Enterprise would the ads be allowed?
2 – If she moves to a self hosted solution, how would she proceed to use them for the new site? Is there some kind of procedure to inform WordPress.com to let them go and then acquire them again from her host?

*how would she proceed to use her domain names for the new site
sorry, didn’t find an edit button

Sorry for YET another post, but I can’t find and edit button for the life of me… I got a few things mixed up, Business and Enterprise aren’t the same thing and upgrading to Enterprise would be prohibitive, (and I suppose Business has nothing to do with ads) so please do not consider the “upgrade” questions, just the ones about the domains.
Thanks again in advance

1) she would need to move to the VIP (that might be enterprise but can’t remember) – to sell & display ads – but the VIP hosting starts around $ 20,000 a year I think – and you need to interview (not all are accepted)
2) This gives a high level how to move to a WordPress.ORG install – you can pay the staff here to do the move if you want: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
Your new host would give you instructions on the settings for the name servers: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/
