About that Block Editor
-
Just discovered this morning that you’ve forced the Block Editor on me and there is apparently no longer a way to revert to the Classic Editor. I’m extremely unhappy! The “three dots” thing doesn’t give me any option to get to the Classic Editor.
I was trying to add a featured image to an old post. In doing so I discovered that with the Block Editor there is seemingly no way to search my image library to find the image I want. I certainly can’t scroll through years of images to find an old one. You need to add a “Search” option! I spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure out how to find the old image and get it into an old post as a featured image.
Color me, a long-time WP user, unhappy. Very, very unhappy.

Hi there,
What is the site that you want to use the classic editor for? Is this for a new site? You should be able to be able to change back to the classic editor, your inability to may be theme related, for certain themes do not allow you to revert to the classic editor. However, if you change to a different theme, you should get the ability back. Otherwise, let me know the site and I will take care of it for you.
Thanks,
-
I want to use the classic editor for PiedType.com. The theme is Opti and I’ve been using it for many years. I don’t want to change themes; too much customization would be lost.
Finally found a way back to the classic editor, but it takes more steps than it should just to edit. Also finally found “Search” for the images.
Thanks in advance for any help.

To restore the Classic Editor, follow the steps under “Will I still be able to use the old editor?” at https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/#frequently-asked-questions
As mentioned though, some themes do require the new editor, so the option may not be available for that reason.

No reason an old theme should require the new editor. In fact, the opposite should be true. In any case, I’ve already tried the three dots thing and it no longer works (used to, but not now).

I get the classic editor if I want to compose a new post. However, if I want to edit a post that’s already been published, clicking the edit button opens the Block Editor, with no apparent way to revert to the classic editor.
-
I always edit existing posts via /wp-admin/edit.php as hovering over the post title then gives me the option of using the classic editor.
(If I forget and end up in the Block editor I find clicking on the three dots doesn’t reveal “switch to classic editor” bottom right unless I minimise the browser/screen to 90% on my laptop). -
I’ve set a bookmark to /wp-admin/edit.php, but then I have to search the long list for the post I want to edit. The latest post, of course, is always the first one.
But until today, all I had to do was click the edit icon next to the post title, and it would drop me into the classic editor.
I’m not at all happy with all the extra steps, especially if all I want to do is correct a spelling, delete a comma, etc. (I’m a retired editor. I’m always finding things that need fixing.)
Reducing the window size doesn’t help. There simply is no option to change editors like there was before.
