About the new feature “Gears”

Sorry this question might have been asked and answered before but before I try this feature out, when I click on “TURBO” it is telling me that from now on my files will be stored on my pc, but what if I still want to acces them online? I mean, do the files remain online AND on my PC? I think there’s something I am missing here. If Im on broadband all the time on all my Pcs do I really need this feature? Will I notice any difference? Thanks a lot in advance. A link will do if all this has been answered before and sorry again.

Thank you Tech. This is what I read first. I sent this question as a comment but it looks like it has been moderated. It does not talk about Offline data location though and it does not say if it worht it if you are on broadband.

I’m on broadband, around 3meg down the line. Does it make a difference? Oh yes.

As for the offline location, it’s wherever the extension puts it just as other extensions store data. I assume it’s in the Settings/Users/ locations.

When you use Gears it downloads 197 files. Sounds a lot but it’s all the files a browser might ask for when you make posts/pages.
So when you go the posts page Gears sees that the files you need are already in your machine so it takes them from there instead which is much much faster. It does check for new files here but it would only download those and not everything.

Try it – if you don’t like it it can be uninstalled really easily, just as any other extension.
