About will not change with new text
-
I am beginning a new blog, using the Modularity Lite theme and wish to put in new non-Avatar text. I put in picture, and wrote text, but the text does not appear; rather when I go to preview the area for the text is blank. What am I doing wrong or how do I insert my desired text?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Let me ask you a question or two first off:
Is the site you’re talking about http://palimpsestparaclara.wordpress.com ?
Also, are you trying to modify the “About” page that is linked from the menu bar on that page? If so, you’ll just need to log in to your Dashboard and then go to Pages >> All Pages. You should be able to edit your About page right there.
Let me know if that fixes what you were talking about or if there was something else that I missed!

no, this is for a new blog cinemafor(n)one, i havent put it on-line yet, but am laying out opening page, etc. and got to the about and it pulled up avatar thing which i want to replace with a different pic and text

Ah! OK, well it looks like you’ve got it pretty well sorted. When I go to the site your “About” page has your photo and a nice blurb and everything you had described. Was there something else in there that you were running in to troubles with?
-
Yep, mystically it is now what I wanted. Before it showed the Avatar thing. Did you do something or did it do it by itself?
OK, the other thing which I want to do is download my cinemaelectronica site. I did check a bit on how to do it, and that you folks can do it for $150. What I want to find out is what form would it be in if I paid to have you do it – what I want is a DVD or BD disk, which one can scroll through, or jump around, just as on-line. When I downloaded some myself I got what I guess is html, which I suppose if I knew more might be readable that way. Kindly inform. thnx

Nope, I didn’t do a thing. In fact I was clicking around looking for what might be going wrong. Very strange!
In regards to your question about the download, it’s a bit different from that. The Guided Transfer would transfer your entire site to a WordPress.org site (which is the self-hosted version of WordPress.com which you can install on any hosting account). If you’re not terribly technically savvy or busy or just generally unsure of the steps, Guided Transfer is a great deal. There are however some great walkthroughs on how to migrate your site to a WordPress.org site that most people can follow themselves.
Once your site is on a WordPress.org installation, you might be able to find a plugin or service which will do what you’re talking about, download and burn your site to a DVD or BD; however we do not offer any such services and I am not aware of any offhand.
If you’d like more information on how to transfer your site, let me know and I can send over some links on how to get started!

Hey Jon,
There are two main ways of moving your site to self-hosted. They’re both explained in detail here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org
Basically, we have a step-by-step tutorial or we have the Guided Transfer option. In the latter, one of our Happiness Engineers will actually help you through the transfer and make sure you have everything looking great.
Look through both of those options and let us know if you have any questions!
