Abuse of editing comment function

Given that I blog about infidelity and comment on blogs about infidelity, obviously there’s a huge polarisation of opinion. My view is that as long as you adhere to the terms of service you should be ok, and if they don’t like my comment they’re free to either not publish it, or reply to it refuting it.

However, a couple of bloggers have started editing my comments to say the opposite of what I had written. This compromises my reputation because it presents me as supporting infidelity and cheating and lying where I blog saying the complete opposite.

Now, luckily, most of my readers know this well enough and so they just laugh about it. But it should not be possible for a blogger to edit someone’s comments and have that not reflected in the comment (eg a line that says “edited by…blogger” at the bottom. That way the person who *actually* wrote the comment gets the attribution and whatever credibility there is in editing people who comment on your blog would go where it’s warranted.

Apart from reporting actual abuse, what is possible to make this kind of editing at least explicit, if not prevented?

I beg your pardon by my own blog is not the problem, it is when I comment on other blogs. Particularly http://inlovewithamarriedwoman.wordpress.com who has also tried to hack my account previously, and written entirely new comments pretending to be me (which were removed after complaints).

Not sure what to suggest – but you might try filing a DMCA complaint with the Terms of Service group – you own your words
