I am aware of that, but surely this kind of abuse can be reported to somewhere…?
Thanks for the links though, I shall take a look.

If you are suffering under the illusion that IP addresses are unique forget that. If you are suffering under the notion WordPress.COM staff will block IP addresses they will not do so.
For trolls, you can “blacklist” them at Settings > Discussion toward the bottom of that page as auxclass suggests. Enter their email address, their username, and if they included it, their website. That will automatically send them to moderation so that their comments do not appear on the blog.
Do note though that if they are determined, they can use a different email address or username to get around that.
Also, do not put their IP address in the comment blacklist. IP addresses are no longer unique. ISP’s put hundreds of us in the same IP block to save money so you might end up blocking legitimate visitors.
Also, all they would have to do is go to a wi-fi hot spot, or connect via a different ISP and they could get around that.

If you are not referring to death threats or anything actionable under the law then I say get over it. The world is not a rose garden and you do not have to read any comment you receive, let alone, approving it.
If you are referring to a legally actionable case hire a barrister and consult your local authorities. Then please read these so you know how to proceed:

We are all responsible for our own emotional health. It takes just as much energy to take offense as it does to give offense. If you do not take offense when something you do not appreciate is said — the statement and the person who delivered it have no power.
If, you do choose to take offense and give the statement and the person who made it power then, needs be, you turn to others to commiserate, expecting that they will stroke you and mother you and they do. When they do you this you choose to feel self-righteously indignant, rather than taking responsibility for your own emotional health and, once again you have given your power away to others.
Please understand that this refusal to live up to our individual responsibility to take care of our “self”, to deal with criticism independently, decisively and effectively is the foundation for the “victim” mindset that pervades our societies today.
Your blog is not YOU. The commentator cannot touch your inner self, unless you give them permission to so don’t open that inner door and give your power away. Take responsibility, develop a comment policy and either post the comment and refute the contents or delete it and blog on. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2008/06/04/how-to-handle-negative-comments/

I understand what you say…it just feels that the bullies can say and do whatever they want but I can’t retaliate….
I just don’t know why they do it….
-
Thanks for that, still not right though is it…?
What is not right in my opinion is any adult wasting time on feeling sorry for themselves because they receive negative comments. We all do so I have published posts in my blogging tips blogs aimed at teaching others how to deal with effectively with negative comments and move on. I warn you not to appear to be looking for other to pass you a crying towel online because if you do that then you will become the kind of blogger a gang of trolls will love to target. Also note that these threads are instantly indexed by Google and available to all with internet access. That means the troll can read this thread and know they scored by upsetting you emotionally. That is what they aim do do and this troll surely got your number.
This thread is tagged for closure for it is in your best interest to do that.
-
Then I would prefer this to be deleted. I am not wasting any ones time, its not negative comments but nasty ones. I would prefer this thread to be removed as I have not gotten anything from this.
-
There is no grounds in this thread for it to be removed. It will be closed as these threads are a community resource and we search before creating new threads others will be able to locate the relevant information in it.

P.S. You have heard this all before under another username https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/block-a-visitor?replies=7#post-1154769

I just think it is wrong they can leave abusive comments and get away with it thats all, im not crying about it, just think its wrong….just deciding whether to stand up to her and allow her comment to be shown so people can see what an sad evil person she is or to let it go and ignore it.
Same back to you.

I prefer ignoring trolls and I have always done what Staff advise http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2013/03/27/how-to-starve-a-troll/
I want my blog to be a great space for civil folks. If you also want that then any satisfaction you think you may receive by exposing the troll only feeds your own head and eggs them on to post another comment. I advise slaying your ego, starving the troll thereby keeping all ugliness off your blog, and simply moving on. This has already taken up far too much of your time and energy. Release yourself from the ego-driven demand to get even by exposure and the notion that seeking commiseration with your readers will enhance your blog content because it wont. -
As advised above – don’t approve the comment – delete it – Trolls want you to engage with them and then they win – they are touched in the head – just ignore them – don’t visit their site – don’t put ANYTHING on your site referring to them at all or what they are trying to do – then you loose and they win –
