Academia Theme – not showing the pictures shown in WordPress' sample

  I followed the steps to create a basic free blog.

  I selected the Academia theme. Problem: 1) The pictures in WordPress’ sample are not showing up. There are no pictures at all whatsoever; 2) The columns in the sample are also not showing up. The writing only shows as one long line from left to right margin on the screen.

  I’m not sure what is the purpose of the theme if when we select that theme it looks nothing like the sample.

  Perhaps I missed a step, but I don’t believe so.

  Any ideas on how to fix this thing?
