Academica layout questions and problems

    I am struggling with the layout on my blog, for which I am trying to use the Academica theme. I have several questions, for which I cannot find answers anywhere immediately obvious.

    1. On the home page, there is a large blank gap between the pictorial header and the first post. This would be a good place to have a text box running the full width of the page, with a welcome message. Is this doable? Failing that, is there any way to at least close the gap?

    2. On the home page, the titles of posts (in blue on my blog) are in a tiny typeface. Is there any way of increasing this?

    3. Ditto the names of the widgets, on the right – tiny typeface.

    4. In general, there seems no way to change the size of typefont in any section of the blog. Can this be possible?

    5. Finally, how can I actually impose one of the available templates on a page, for example by making it full-width? Again, there is no obvious way of doing so anywhere in evidence.

    My thanks in advance to anybody who can shed some light!

    Page template options should appear in the Page Attributes module of any page editor. If it is absent, by some chance, then you might have to enable it a Screen Options.

    The remainder of your questions each, I think, involve CSS customizations, access to which would require purchase of the Premium Plan, if you haven’t already bought it. I have tagged the thread for Staff attention, as they would be most likely to able to help you with such customization issues.

    Hi there!

    1. On the home page, there is a large blank gap between the pictorial header and the first post. This would be a good place to have a text box running the full width of the page, with a welcome message. Is this doable? Failing that, is there any way to at least close the gap?

    You can use CSS to close the gap.

    If you’d like to give this a try, click Appearance → Customize in your site’s Dashboard. Then, click CSS in your right-hand menu. In the CSS Revisions box, please paste the following underneath all existing text:

    .column-title {
    min-height: 10px;
    }

    Then Save your changes.

    Yes. Please click on this link to go to your Customizer:

    https://tripelago.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?return=%2Fwp-admin%2F

    Then, choose Fonts in your menu. Where you see, “Header Text,” and “Body Text,” you will click on the words “Default Theme Font.” Choose a font you like, then you will be able to choose a size for that font.

    Make sure to save your changes!

    Thank you very much for your clear and effective answers, which have solved my immediate problems.

    I have one other question at this point: I have added the “Authors” widget to my homepage sidebar, and this seems to be working as advertised. However, there seems no way of changing the sequence of names, which is apparently random rather than alphabetical. Is there any way to intervene?

    Hi there,

    Robyn is out for a couple of days, so I’m taking a look at her tickets for her.

    The Authors widget will display the list of authors in the order of how much they post. So the person who posts the most should be listed first. The person who posts the least should be listed last, and all the rest should be in between.

    OK, thank you, that makes sense. As long as I know how it works…
