Accelerator for IE8 not working
-
I try to repeatedly (for months, actually) tried to install the IE8 accelarator but I only get a message saying:
“Internet Explorer could not install this Accelerator. There was a problem with the Accelerator’s information”.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled IE, I have reinstalled Windows, I have cleared the cache, I have cleared on Add-on data, I have done everything but nothing works. I keep getting told by support that it must be, 1) something I’m doing, 2) something I’m not doing, 3) something wrong with my install of IE, 4) something wrong with my configuration, 5) I don’t know how to install an Accelerator, 6) I don’t know what I’m talking about, 7) I’m standing the wrong direction wor it to work (okay, I’m almost kidding about that last one). The plan and simple fact is, the Accelerator refuses to install and IE specifically states that the problem lies with the Accelerator. Does anyone know how to trick IE8 install installing this sucker, or has anyone written a WP Accelerator that actually works?

Id this what you are referring to? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/features/faster.aspx

imethief: Yes, Accelerator’s are described at < http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/features/faster.aspx >. The WP Accelerator in question is located at < http://alaskahome1959.wordpress.com/wp-admin/tools.php >.
t3ck: How is this a WP.com related issue? Well, it’s their Accelerator, written by them, posted by them and apparantly mis-coded by them (at least, according to the error message IE generates when attempting to install it). At the same time, it is not an IE issue, it is not a Windows issue, it is not an operator issue.

Clarification: The Accelerator in question is generically located at < username.wordpress.com/wp-admin/tools.php >.

@alaskahome1959 I check the tools section for my WP.com blog and I can not find any IE8 WP Accelerator option. = |

If we check out wordpress.com dashboards we see this TURBO link next to the screen options link. When we click it we find:
Tools
Turbo: Speed up WordPressWordPress now has support for Gears, which adds new features to your web browser.
More information…After you install and enable Gears, most of WordPress’ images, scripts, and CSS files will be stored locally on your computer. This speeds up page load time.
Don’t install on a public or shared computer.
Is this related to “acceleration” in a wordpress.com context?
