Accepting payments

Good day! I understand that you have to be on a paid plan to accept payments on your website. I live in South Africa and Stripe doesn’t function here. Does that mean I will not have any payment options on my website should I decide to upgrade in the nearby future? If this is the case it does make WordPress a pretty useless option for me to continue with. Kindly advise in order for me to know whether I should scrap this project. Kind regards, Ian Huyser

  • Hi! The payment block that works with all paid plans relies on Stripe.

If you can have PayPal payments, there is a block on the Premium plan for that:
    https://wordpress.com/support/pay-with-paypal/

Or you can use a button from their site:
    https://wordpress.com/support/paypal/

If you need something that’s different from Stripe and PayPal, that’s still doable, but just not built into our services. You would need a plugin for a different payment gateway. Our Business Plan would handle that nicely since you can install plugins there:

I hope that helps! And, for what it’s worth, I did a little searching and it looks like Stripe is working on support there. Hopefully soon, though of course I can’t offer any ETA. You can subscribe to their updates here:

    Fingers crossed!
