Access old editing format?
-
I’m a little confused. I’m able to access the old editor quite easily using the WP Admin link at the bottom of the stats page’s left hand menu. Is this disappearing for some people?
-
jaydeejapan, you’re right, but you’re using the new stats page. I still use the old one, and it’s not available from there.
-
-
Then go to “All Posts” & save the URL just in case that “Comments” page stops working getting into the old format.
-
The main issue for is that if I am logged into my website as administrator at my home page, I have a drop-down menu for “My Site” on left side; normally, until yesterday, all I had to do for editing or whatever was to go down and click on “Posts.” That now leads me to the non-functional new version (that must be designed for children), that doesn’t actually “list” the posts. But I can get to what I want (currently) by instead clicking on “WP Admin” and then “Posts” on the left side of “My Site.”
-
You can get to the “Comments” page from home page – but if you are in New Format click on your WP Admin then comments.

@sensuouscurmudgeon
Thanks for tagging this thread with modlook for Staff help.I am suddenly unable to access the format I always used to add new blogs or edit old ones. I did manage to publish a new blog, but I had a of trouble finding everything that I used to know exactly how to find. Is there any way to access the old format?
Has another change(s) been made that Volunteers answering questions here need to be aware of?
-
I used to be able to get to the classic version through “My Site” in the top left corner – and then clicking on “Blog Posts”. Now I have to go through the new stats page to get it (so now I have to bookmark the direct links to the classic pages for my stats and to add posts.
The new version does not allow me to use Zemantra – a service that works very well for me personally.
WordPress, why do you keep trying to downgrade things??????

Glad to help, timethief. These threads about the relentless advance of Beep Beep Boop are the only ones I bother with any more.

I have recently noticed for a number of retail websites I visit that the overall functionality of the sites is decreasing. … extremely basic design with almost a monochromatic look to it, maybe just blue on white. I assume these changes are made to accommodate the increasing number of mobile devices accessing the Internet and that these devices require a simpler design where not much information can be displayed on the screen at one time. This is certainly annoying for me on a day to day basis.
For purposes of users viewing websites or making purchases, it appears companies have decided to go the route of making it easier to access sites from mobile devices; this is at the expense of the viewing experience for those still using PCs with fairly large screen displays.
But when it comes to actually preparing the information to be viewed by others, the forced transition to primitively designed web pages and reduced functionality is more than a mere annoyance. It makes the whole blogging experience, for example, a real chore if not impossible. For those preparing information to be viewed by others, the “classic” design should have priority. I am not going to prepare blog articles on a tablet and I doubt if most other bloggers are either.

@timethief – thank you. I subscribed already this morning. No problem with waiting, as long as there is any solution out there. I would also pay a fee just to be able to use the functions the way I did.

I cannot even *find* the way to make my posts private, using the new crappy editor, seriously. In the end I had to make my posts private using the classic “blog posts” page using the WP admin link, my goodness.
Can anyone tell me how to make public posts private using the new design?
Helpful responses much appreciated.

Seems like if the New Format don
t work on a lot of its functions - Might as well have the old classic format back until wordpress sort the new special format that dont work. -
@ombiaombia
I believe Staff may have made more user interface changes. That said, I can still access and use all the classic user interface pages. I suppose it’s possible that they have made changes aimed to drive all new users to the new interface pages, but until or unless they say so I cannot state that with any confidence.As I am not a new wordpress.com user I use what I will post below.
The Admin login link for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/All you need to do is replace NAME_OF_BLOG with your actual blog name in the URL.
I can create a post here > Dashboard > Posts > Add New
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.phpOn the dashboard of your own blog at
Dashboard > Posts > All Posts I can hover over any post title and click the Edit link and proceed with editing.http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
To reach the comments page I use
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/ wp-admin/edit-comments.php
To reach the old stats pages I use these links:
Try these links too for old the stats pages
https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?view=table
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=stats -
Oops! I see an extra space issue in that URL above.
To reach the comments page I use

The New format on “Text” AKA “HTML” post setting text box there are no functions like < strong> BOLD buttons so we have to type <<<< st all the time.
-
@mabelamber
I can select Private or Password protected etc. post visibility settings when I create a post in the classic editor at Dashboard > Posts > Add Newhttp://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php
*All you need to do is replace NAME_OF_BLOG with your actual blog name in the URL.
Note all the sidebar tags in the new editor feedback thread please as they state what’s missing in the new editor.
