Access to password protected site.

I just created a password protected blog site and am trying to figure out how do members actually log into it. I have a password that is assigned to the blog, but in order to log in WP asks for a user name as well as the password and obviously I don’t want to be handing out my user name and password. I thought only a password was needed since that is what was asked for when I set the blog up as password protected. The idea was to notify members by email where to go and to give them the password just for that blog site. Can anybody enlighten me?

The username and the password are needed for YOUR log in, which gives you access to your dashboard. Members you invite as users of a private blog don’t get that kind of access. Those users (who must have or create a wordpress account first) will simply be able to see your blog, WITHOUT a password, after you add THEIR usernames in Settings > Privacy.
