Access to the blog site’s files?

I may be trying to do this the wrong way, simply not hip to the WordPress patterns, but I *think* I want to get access to a blog’s files so I can do customization on it as a complete site, not just through a content management tool. I can see how that would be done were I to install WP on a server and bring up a blog on it, but I want to use all the capabilities and benefits of WordPress.com, but still be able to tinker with the innards.

Can I do that? Is it supported? If so, then what address and protocols allows me to connect to the site? I do a lot of work using other server technologies with Dreamweaver, and I dl’d ThemeDreamer. Does that get me anywhere? I’d hope that there’s an ftp address that gets me to the unique content for the blog I’m working on, but maybe I’m looking at the whole thing sideways.

    Help?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Short answer: you can’t. We have no php access, you can’t use FTP, you can’t design using Dreamweaver or any other offline theme developer and apply that to the blog.

The ONLY way to change the look of a WP.com blog other than adding a custom header and some very minor tweaks is to learn CSS from scratch, purchase the CSS upgrade, and edit the CSS yourself. You can’t use external themes at all, and there’s virtually no help with CSS, so you have to be very confident in your own abilities.

Not what I wanted to hear, but succinct and to the point :-).

All I *really* want to do in the short run is add some img tags to the header section so an image will appear when someone pastes a link to a blog entry into a Facebook update. Any thoughts on how that might be accomplished other than through access to the code? The ‘custom header’ capability I’ve run across seems to be limited to uploading a graphic/

Uh, if you put the Getsociallive.com buttons on the posts, and include an image in the actual post, then when people use the button to post it to their Facebook the thumbnail automatically comes up.
