Access WP Dashboard
-
I can’t access my WP admin dashboard! I think it’s because last week I set up a blog for the people in my building. All of this is volunteer on my on time and fixed income. I don’t even know if they want it, but now WordPress thinks I’m making a business blog and should pay for a plan.
Huge full-page ads cover my dashboard on all my WordPress blogs. I can’t even navigate from one blog (site) to the other. I don’t know how to get rid of the ads and get my WP admin dashboard back. I posted a screenshot at https://naturallyurbanpicshobbycorner.wordpress.com/2022/01/24/problem-for-it-to-see/. I paged all the way to the end of the ads (clicked ‘next’ and ‘next’) but there was no way out.
Can you help me?
PS A long time ago I played around with stuff and got a ‘plan’ stuck in my cart. I was just curious how it worked. In most places, you can cancel if you decide not to buy. I am unable to find such an option here so it’s still in my cart a few years later and I think it is causing part of my problem today. I will really appreciate if you can get me out of this mess!

Hi there,
Thanks for the screen shot. Those are upgrade nudges we display on the My Home page on all sites – which nudges you see for any particular site depends on what plan that site is on. Next to the button that says “Let’s Explore” is a link saying “Hide this”. Click that to hide that module from the page.
But that screen shot is in the dashboard, so you do have access to it.
Is the problem perhaps that you’re missing the menu? That’s because you have it collapsed at the moment, so it’s just showing icons instead of the text labels. Click the arrow icon that appears at the bottom of the bar on the left to fully expand the menu again.
If you’re looking for WP-Admin specifically, that’s is only available for some menu items, specifically those that exist in the core WordPress software itself. The My Home page in your screen shot is not part of WordPress itself, but is a feature specific to WordPress.com, so you won’t see an option to switch to WP-Admin on that specific page.
Dashboard pages that do have the option to switch to WP-Admin include Posts, Pages, Comments, and most of the options under Appearance, Users, Tools and Settings.

Go to the dashboard for the site that has the upgrade in the cart, and click on Upgrades. When the notice appears saying you have items in the cart, click on View Cart, and you’ll see an option to remove the items from your cart.
Having an upgrade in the cart is not related to your ability to access WP-Admin, nor to upgrade nudges being shown in the dashboard, though.

Thanks so much for your detailed instructions and for the screenshot. Yes, I missed the Menu! Now I can see it!
The “Hide this” button is working now. Last night it was not working.
I was able–finally–to remove item from shopping cart.
I think that solves my problems.
