Accessibility for new editor
-
Hi, I am a totally blind blogger who relies on being able to access WordPress with my screenreading software JAWS and would like some assurances that once the new editor starts on 1 June that it will be fully user friendly with such software. I have had a brief look, but did not get very far so I’m sure you understand my misgivings.

As the block editor hides most menus/toolbars until you find/expand them I doubt it can ever be made fully accessible to you. Luckily as your account is 7 years old the wp-admin dashboard and the classic editor should continue to be available after June 1st. (If it isn’t then I’ll be gone from here too).
I’ve tagged your thread to ask if a member of staff could be kind enough to reply to you. -
Thanks so much for the reply and your support… by law all websites are supposed to conform to some sort of accessibility, but sadly not everyone takes much notice.

Hi there,
Accessibility is a big priority for the open source WordPress project on WordPress.org where this editor is made, and a significant number of improvements to the editor over the past year has been with regards to accessibility.
As far as I know it should work fine with screen reader software. And if you do run into anything that’s not working, contact support to let us know, and we can report it to the editor team to fix.
And as stated above, you’ll also still have access to the classic editor in WP-Admin on your site.

Hi, thanks for the reply. That’s reassuring. However, when I tried it yesterday I typed in the title for my new blog, but could not find where to paste the main body of text into, kept coming up with a message to try again.
