Accessibility post navigation on WordPress

    Hi!
    My name is Marco Oros.
I have a problem with some blogs on WordPress. There is way to access older posts via scrolling, but this is not good for the blind people, like me. It was also another way to press button older posts, It was button to move to the next page. Ofcourse, some themes have this ability to move to another page, as a navigation. This is reason, why I have posted It to the forum themes. Nextly, I have My blogs switched to the theme “minimalizine”, which have a button to load another posts, but It is still strange.
Nextly, there is for example theme “twentyseventeen”, where are buttons to the next pages, if there are many posts on one blog.
This is My explanation and here is a pleasure. Please, can You add some themes with older post link, or edit some scrolling themes?
This is only my pleasure and I understand, that there are not many blind people here.
Also, I have an idea to switch one of My blogs to various themes and maybe write somewhere, which themes are not scrolling and also, accessible for the blind. This is only my idea.
    Thank You!

  • Hi Marco, thank you for sharing your experiences navigating WordPress.com sites with a screen reader.

Nextly, I have My blogs switched to the theme “minimalizine”, which have a button to load another posts, but It is still strange.

Are you able to read more posts with your screen reader after clicking the “More posts” button, or does your screen reader have trouble with that?

Have you tried following blogs and reading posts in the WordPress.com Reader at https://wordpress.com? Does it provide a better experience?

    Let me know, thanks!

    OK.
It works and also, I can read It.
I would like to explain, what was this problem and also, this is important for the blind people.
If some theme have option to infinite scroll and this scroll don’t work very good, simply go to the read settings on Your dashboard of Your blog and uncheck infinite scroll checkbox.
It just got information about It from My friend.
Also, some themes have a page navigation, which is also great.

  • I’m glad you have some alternative ways to read WordPress.com posts that are compatible with your screen reader, thanks for sharing them.

In the future, we plan to look into how to make Infinite Scroll more compatible with screen readers. Would you be interested in being contacted when that happens so we can include you in that process?

    Ofcourse, You can contact me.
But I thing, that this is not very cool with screen readers, because blind people can’t imagine that. But, You can try that.

  • Thanks, Tanuki. We appreciate your comments about Infinite Scroll and workarounds for screen reader accessibility.
