Accessing a pre-owned domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

I had deleted my old WordPress site, thinking I was only deleting the blog. Now, I can’t see my original WordPress profile, but have already allocated my personal domain to it. How can I retrieve this and repoint it to my new site?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi!

Could you let me know the domain you’re referring to?

    Hi, Jeremy

    Thank you for your reply.

    My domain is: heather salmon.london

    which is registered with 123-reg.co.uk

I want to link it to my new WordPress Profile blog.

    Many thanks,

    Heather

    Hi Heather,

Thanks for providing the domain name. It looks like the domain heathersalmon.london is already mapped to another WordPress.com site owned by another username. Since domains can only be mapped to one WordPress.com site at a time, you won’t be able to use it with your current site until we delete the other one.

Since the domain mapping upgrade for heathersalmon.london is currently owned by another user account, we’ll need a request from that user to remove the domain so you can use it. Do you still have access to that account or to the email address associated with that account?

    Again, thanks, Jeremy

The original site was set up by me a few years ago.

    The details were:

    [redacted]

I was trying to delete the blog sites, but managed to delete the entire WordPress site by accident. I do not need it to be re-instated, other than to retrieve my heathersalmon.london domain address, to link it to the one I’ve just created.

The issue is that there is a Heather Salmon in America, so I wanted to differentiate myself as being the one based in London.

Hope that helps, but if you need me to do/provide anything else, please let me know.

    Best,

    Heather

    Hi Heather,

Just a reminder, you’re posting to a public support forum. Please refrain from posting usernames and passwords or any other personal information. I’ve removed your username and password from the previous thread, but I would highly recommend you go change the password as it was in a public thread for quite some time.

In order for me to move the mapping upgrade from the current blog to the new one, I’ll need you to send in a support request from your other WordPress.com account that currently owns the upgrade. I went ahead and sent an email to the address associated with that account. Could you please reply back there confirming you would like the domain mapping upgrade transferred?

    Thanks, Jeremy

I had not realised that it remained public, even though you were dealing with my request.

I’ll change my login details, as suggested.

    Very much appreciate your support.

    Best,

    Heather

    Not a problem Heather!

    Hi, Jeremy

I did reply to your email from my other email address, but when I just tried to map my new domain name to my new site, it said that this was already owned by another site.

Can you let me know where you got to with this? Is there some additional action that you need me to do before this is complete?

    With many thanks,

    Heather

Yep! I received everything I need. I moved the domain as requested and sent the details through email.

    Hi, Jeremy

    Thank you for doing this.

I can see something has changed, but have not yet received your email.

I’ve sent you another reply with more detail, and will await your response.

    Thank you.

    Best,

    Heather

    Hi Heather,

Since we’ve moved the domain so that it’s now under the user account heathersalmon, let’s continue here (since you’re using that account). The issue here is that the name servers for heathersalmon.london are no longer pointed to WordPress.com. Can you login to your registrar (where you purchased the domain) and change the name servers as described here?
