I can’t access the Customizer, Appearance, Header Images. There is no “Customizer” selection in the dropdown. Why cant I access? We have loaded custom header images for a few years and suddenly I can’t find how to update the Appearance

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

When you log in to your Dashboard and then go to the Appearance menu, is Customize not one of the options available to you? I just took a look in your account and could see it.

If not, which browser and version are you using? Is this happening in just this browser or in others as well?

Thanks in advance for the additional information!

Thank you for your reply, however I do not see the Appearance menu, and I always used to. I have tried Google Chrome and Firefox in addition to IE but still no appearance menu, therefore can’t find customize.

    Hi there,

Can you confirm the URL of the site you’re currently trying to access the Customizer on? Is it mortonarboretumphotographicsociety.wordpress.com?

    Yes, that is the URL.

    Thank you,

    Hi Greg,

You’re having trouble accessing the Appearance menu because your user role is set to editor on that blog. In order to change the appearance, you will need to be an administrator. You can read more about this here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

You could either ask the site administrator to make the changes for you or bump you up to an administrator level so you could have access to the menu as well.

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Hello – yes we figured it out and I now have Administrator rights and can access the Appearance menu – thank you!
And I have another question: Pat Klingberg ((email visible only to moderators and staff)) was our original site guru but he has since moved on. However when we went thru this recent Appearance stuff, he came up as an Administrator or the primary ID?? We want our site to have only 2 with Administrator rights and we don’t know how to remove Pat Klingberg. The 2 with rights: (email visible only to moderators and staff) and (email visible only to moderators and staff). Thanks…

    Hi there,

Currently, the only two users with access to the blog are the two users you mention. Could you explain where you’re seeing the mention of the other user?

  • Unknown's avatar

we were able to delete Pat Klingberg from the user group under “Users/All Users” using Bulk Erase. We appear to be OK now. Thank you.
