Accessing my blog with my new registered domain.

  • Unknown's avatar

I registered my domain name, my blog is private, and now I cannot access my blog. I am taken to the login private blog and when I put in my user name and password (the password I use for my blog), I am not given access to my blog. It doesn’t recognize me.

I tried inviting myself, but I am already a ‘user’ on the blog and it would not let me invite myself.

How can I access my blog at turtlecompass.com? Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello Juliet,

When I visit compassturtle.com, I am sent to compassturtle.wordpress.com. Can you adjust compassturtle.com to be your Primary Domain and let me know what happens when you attempt to access your site?

Click Store → My Domains. Make sure your custom domain is now primary.

You may have to wait several minutes for the change to take effect.

Then, make sure you’re already logged in as a user, and click http://compassturtle.com/.

Please let me know if you’re able to view your site without the login screen appearing.

Looking forward to hearing from your and helping to get your custom domain up and running.

    Hi Robyn,

Thank you for getting back to me. I changed my Primary Domain to compassturtle.com, from Store>My Domains. But, then when I try to access my blog, I am taken to the login screen where I need to put in my user name and password.

I am already logged in, when this happens. My user and password are not accepted at the login screen and I am given an error message. I then logged out of WordPress and logged back in, and tried again to access my blog, after about a half an hour, and the same happened. I can get to the Dashboard, but not to the blog itself.

I have now put my Primary Domain back to compassturtle.wordpress.com (from Store>My Domains) and I again have access to it.

    Thank you for your help!

    Best wishes,
    Juliet

    Hi Juliet,

I see an invitation to your private site to jpk1265. Are you attempting to log on with the user name with which you registered the blog? Or with jpk1265?

Thanks much for your patience. We’ll get to the bottom of this!

    Hi Robyn,

I tried to invite myself using another email: (email visible only to moderators and staff). jpk1265 is an old, unused email, attached to an old blog. When I invited myself, I was already logged into WordPress I think, as I was not prompted to create a password. That is, on the security log in page, you have to enter a user name and a password. So, if I invite someone, they would need to have those.

When I try to log on to my current blog, I am using the user name and password that I used to register the blog.

Yikes – it’s sounding convoluted! Hope it makes sense. Thank you!

Juliet, These details are helpful. Thank you!

First, I wanted to make sure that you’ve clicked on the links of any confirmation emails you received when you registered your site, and your domain. If you haven’t please make sure you do that.

Next, I see you’re using Firefox. Please recreate your process on Chrome or Safari, and let me know if you get the same results, of if you’re able to log right in.

If you are able to log in with these other browsers, go back to Firefox and clear your cache and cookies using the guide below:

    Solve Common Browser Issues

Then log into Firefox and let me know how that works.

It was a creative idea to invite yourself to your own site. Since it didn’t help, I’ve deleted the invitation, but it was a smart choice!

Looking forward to hearing how these steps go for you. Thanks!

    Hi Robyn,

I cleared the cache and cookies on Safari and don’t seem to have the problem with logging in anymore. Thanks! I think once I make the blog public, some issues will become clearer for me, in terms of access.

However, a new question … I noticed that when I access my blog on Safari, the image on the home page does not show up. There is just a tiny box with a question mark in it.

Do I need to do something particular in formatting or inserting images, so that they show up in Safari (and other browsers). This might be an issue for additional browsers as well. Firefox is fine. Thanks again for your help.

    Best regards,
    Juliet

Hi Juliet! Glad the log in works now. Clearing the cache and cookies works magic in some cases :)

It appears as if you may have an error with that image, which may have occurred because you last edited your page when we were in the midst of updating our image editor. It could have simply been bad timing. The best thing to do is delete it completely in your Post Editor and re-Add Media. That should solve the problem.

Please let me know if you need further assistance. Cheers!
