Accidental change of theme – can I erase recent changes?
-
I need to erase a recent action which seems to have changed the theme of my site. How can I do this? The theme I wish to use is now ‘retired’ but I still want to use it.
-
Hi there!
I’m afraid it won’t be possible as we do not offer the retired themes anymore.
Could you let us know what theme was that? We can suggest a similar one or give you some tips on how you can achieve the layout you’re looking for. Also note that if you log into the account that owns the purchases on your site, you’ll be able to access the live chat from https://wordpress.com/help/contact

The theme was React.
I have also written a query to Live Chat.
It is usually fine to switch themes but this one disappeared when I was testing another theme that is not suitable. We chose React after much consideration, very deliberately. The look we are going for has a lot of white space, no images across the entire screen, is probably what you call conservative in style, allows images with captions underneath (not on top of images) to be laid out in grids with white space between images, has a sidebar and two image/text columns on the home page, is able to access Garamond font – and doesn’t need significant coding to achieve this (a bit is OK). Can anyone help or let me know if I should be asking elsewhere? Or reinstate React for this site only?

Would you confirm what site you need help with? Please send a link.
Note too you might be able to build this out with blocks.

On that site, there have been 8 theme switches in the past 24 hours, since the site was created.
None were for the React theme, so it won’t be able to switch to that.
Are you sure that you’re referring to the correct site?

Oops, I’m sorry, a little preoccupied today. The correct site is:
-
Ok, you should be able to re-activate React there by searching for and activating it via https://dfpressus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php
-
That doesn’t work. The theme has been ‘retired’. Is there a way to backtrack on whatever action lost it?
Also, what exactly is the problem with using a retired theme if that is the style you like?
thank you! -
Hi there,
I see React was purchased for dfpressus.wordpress.com by the site owner,
dancingfoxespress, in 2016. That theme was has since been retired. While you can continue using a retired theme for as long as you want, once you switch from a retired premium theme to a different theme, it’s not possible to switch back to it again. It might be possible for us to still reactivate this theme for you, but we’ll need
dancingfoxespressto please comment here to confirm, as that account is the owner of this theme and of the premium plan on the site. -
Hello again,
Our team has made an adjustment on this side to make it possible for you to re-enable that theme. You should now see it if you go to https://dfpressus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?search=react
