accidental domain cancellation
-
Hi, I had bought my domain <mydomainname>.com and mapped it to this account. I didn’t want to do that. I wanted to map it to another account. I cancelled the domain hoping to register a new wordpress account and then re-register/map <mydomainname>.com under that new account. I see that <mydomainname>.com is unavailable for registering even though I cancelled. Has it been released? I’d still like to buy <mydomainname>.com through wordpress, just have it mapped to a different wordpress account.
Is there any way to cancel my cancellation, or to help me understand when <mydomainname>.com will become available for me to register?
Thanks

I tagged this topic, and included a reference to a similar situation: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/domain-unavailable-after-cancellation?replies=7#post-2092570
I also tagged staff RachelMCR. If you’re there HappyLinguist, please help.

Hi there,
What Rachel said in the thread you linked is true. Cancelled domains are normally released and can be registered again within a week, but we can’t guarantee this–and there are chances that the domain won’t be available for sale from other domain vendors too.
Since you cancelled it yesterday, I’d suggest you to wait between 5 to 7 days and see if the domain will be hopefully released and put on sale again.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or need some more help :)

Thank you stef. Rachel also stated that it might be possible to recover the domain.
“If you’d like, we can try to recover that domain for you, and you can then move the domain to a new host. For the first 60 days you’ll need to keep the domain registered here, but you can still point it to your new host to use it there. After the waiting period you’ll then be able to transfer the domain completely to a new registrar if you’d like.”
Can that be done here? What would be involved with that?

Hello there,
Apologies for the delay in my reply. What’s the domain, in detail? I can give it a look for you and see if it’s already possible to recover it :)
