Accidental [publish] instead of [save]. how to return text to Draft?

    How do i move a Trashed post to an unpublished Draft? I looked up just as I pressed the Save for the first time and found the Publish button had been pressed instead. I Sent the post to Trash and it disappeared from the public display. now … how can I get back to editing the text?

    You’ll need to use the Quick Edit feature to do so. I just tried this. However, I was not able to get that feature while the post was in the Trash.

    So, do this: go Dashboard –> Posts –> All Posts –> Trash. Hover over the post and hit Restore on the trashed post. This will make it live again, but don’t worry. Then click on the Published tab, find the post you want make a draft and hover over it, hit Quick Edit. That will expand the info on the post. Over to the right under Tags, you’ll see Status, with a scroll down box. You’ll find three options, select Draft, and then hit the blue Update button. That will restore the post to Draft mode until you’re ready to publish it for real.

    It is embarrassing and unpleasant to have work prematurely released, with all the strange possible phrasings and potential directions open to others. Appreciate your guidance.
