Accidentally cancelled purchases
-
Hi!
I was trying to redirect my domain name (nicholaschabot.com) to my new platform (from cargo collective) and some people I shared my website with said they were still seeing the old wordpress website despite using name server redirects or emptying their cache.
Since things weren’t working out properly, in a last brainless attempt I cancelled my domain (and therefore my plan) on wordpress assuming the name’s domain would be instantly released… Only to figure out it would probably take 5 days. Not my brightest decision.
I may don’t have these days, since I’m expecting a job interview at any day which will require my website.
Would it be possible to restore my domain and plan in my purchases for the time being?
Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi nickchabb,
I am adding a modhelp to the thread.
A staff member will soon help you with this. Please be patient as staff replies.

Hi there,
Only to figure out it would probably take 5 days
It will not take only five days. I see your domain expired yesterday. Expired domains go through a process of about 80 days before they are released, and even then there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to use the domain again. With cancelled domains it’s not quite as long, but it can still be as long as 40 days or longer, and you run a very real risk of completely losing the domain.
I’ve emailed our domain provider to restore that domain to our account. I’ll let you know once they reply.
However, you will need to renew it within the next two weeks, or it will be removed from our account again and go into redemption with our domain provider, at which point it will cost more to get it back.
Your Premium Plan also expired yesterday, so I cannot restore it to your site any more. But you can purchase a new plan from My Site ->Plans if you still want one. I recommend you wait until the domain is restored before buying a plan, though, so the domain can be renewed as part of the plan.
If you’re planning to use the domain with another hosting service, you don’t need to renew a plan with us as well. I can help you point the domain where it should be once it’s restored.

That was quick :)
Your domain is restored and I’ve reactivated it in your account.
I also see it was already renewed when you bought your plan in February – your account showed conflicting info after the upgrades were removed – so you don’t need to renew anything at this time. I’ve restored your plan as well.
As this all started with you trying to point the domain elsewhere, please let me know what exactly you’re trying to do, and I can make sure everything is set up correctly on our end for you.

Hi!
First, thank you for that good and helpful explanation!
I really don’t mind WordPress hosting my domain in fact, I just assumed it would be easier for me the other way around (which turned out to be false). As long as it redirects to my cargocollective layout I’m fine.
If you’re planning to use the domain with another hosting service, you don’t need to renew a plan with us as well. I can help you point the domain where it should be once it’s restored.
I know that custom domains are usually part of WordPress plans, but do you mean I could still have my custom .com domain in my WordPress profile’s purchases without a plan? Like a separated item?
Thank you!

Oh ahah it was quick indeed, I was typing my reply.
Alright so I just want my .com domain to redirect to my cargocollective layout. I know there’s something about name servers, I was able to get something working roughly yesterday before my mistakes.
Concerning my Premium Plan, do I need to keep it to preserve my domain name or this one can be dealt with separately?

I’ve removed the plan for you. You won’t need that for a domain with a site hosted elsewhere. Cheers!

Thank you! That’s all I needed!
That was fast and efficient.
Consider everything solved :-)
