  I didnt realise my domain change would be permanent? can i change it back?

  Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and the only exceptions made are for URLs deleted 2 or more years ago. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

  Unfortunately you can’t change it back. :(
