Is there anyway I can reinstate it? I did this today. Please, please, please help!! The domain I’m trying to recover is dfsmancave.com

Hey Jeremy,
So i cancelled everything i had set up so i could start from scratch. I cancelled my domain and premium free trial as well, so all i have right now is my wordpress.com blog. I had a couple of questions since im pretty new at setting a domain up. Let me know when you are ready
Thanks

Hey Nick! Happy to answer any questions while we figure out the domain situation. I’ll let you know as soon as I hear more about the domain. In the meantime, feel free to fire away!

ok cool. So I wanted to get a domain through Dreamhost (because of availability of plugins), I would just get it on Dreamhost and map it? and do I need a premium plan to map it or just pay the $13/yr fee?

The best way forward would actually be the following:
1. I’m trying to get your domain restored back to WordPress.com. At that point, the domain would be registered on your WordPress.com account, and I would send over a manual payment request for the domain.
2. You will be able to change the name servers to point to Dreamhost so that you can use your domain on a self-hosted site. The domain would still be registered with WordPress.com, but you could use it with Dreamhost.
3. After 60 days from the date of registration, you can actually transfer the domain registration to Dreamhost from WordPress.com. That way, everything will be on your Dreamhost account (There’s a 60 day transfer hold on domains so we wouldn’t be able to do that right away.)
On the Dreamhost side, you would just need to purchase a hosting account. Does that help to clarify?

ok cool that sounds good. One other question I had, when I go to the My Domains page and go to “select a blog” drop down menu there are 2 options they both say DFSMancave. When I click the first option in the drop down menu it has dfsmancave.wordpress.com (never expires) set as primary domain which is fine. But then when I go to the drop down menu and press the second option (also DFSMancave) it shows http://www.dfsmancave.com and is set as primary domain and says it never expires. Do you know why I have http://www.dfsmancave.com listed on there when I don’t have the domain in my possession? I can send a picture if it would be easier to understand.

Those are actually two different sites.
First, we have the WordPress.com site dfsmancave.wordpress.com. Currently, there are no other domains on that site (since we’re trying to restore the domain).
Second, we have a self-hosted site connected to WordPress.com through Jetpack (www.dfsmancave.com). It looks like that self-hosted site was connected four days ago, but is no longer functional (presumably because of the domain issue). Once we get the domain setup again, we’ll make sure this is up and running correctly.
You’ll need to keep both sites on your account until you transfer the domain away (since you have to have a .wordpress.com site to have a domain registered at WordPress.com). After you transfer the domain, we can remove the dfsmancave.wordpress.com site to clean up your account!

Ok cool now I understand thanks for clarifying, just let me know when you need me to do something
Thanks

Sorry for the delay! I haven’t heard back from the registrar yet, but the good news is that it looks like the domain is available for registration again. Can you try to register it following the steps here?
Keep in mind if you’re planning on using the domain with a self-hosted site, you may want to register it directly with your third-party host rather than registering it with WordPress.com and transferring it over.

Ok ill try that once i get home….if i register with third party ill still be able to get the wordpress blog interface like i had before where it shows the left side bar

Are you referring to the WordPress interface for adding posts, pages, etc? If so, you should have that once you setup your self-hosted site with Dreamhost. Please let me know if I misunderstood!

The operator interface between a WordPress.ORG install (what you are doing now) and WordPress.COM (here) are almost the same, a .ORG install has an Install Plugin’s option – that is the biggest difference and less Widgets unless you install the JetPack Plugin.

All set guys, I’m up and running….Thanks for the help…ended up registering directly with the third party and using dreampress
