Deleted wordpress.COM blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and the only exceptions are made are for URLs that were deleted 2 or more years ago. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
You can register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Adding a New Site or Blog to an Existing Account https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-account
Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

The blog name was originally emilyturiano.wordpress.com. The name I accidentally changed it to is emilyturianointernship.wordpress.com.

Have yo read this relevant wordpress.COM support doc at https://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/?
7. The final option on this screen allows you to discard your current address. This option will permanently disable the address and you will not be able to reuse it. Only select this option if you are sure you will not use the address again. If you want to redirect traffic to the new blog, you can keep the address and purchase the Site Redirect upgrade. Note: if you do not select this option, you will see your original address under My Sites.

You can export content from one site and import it into into the other site.
Export https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
Import https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ -

-
Provided both sites have not been deleted, you can export content from one site and import it into into the other site.
Export https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
Import https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ -
So I just export the content and have to make a new name? I was hoping to go back to what it was.
-
Let’s taker another run at this. What is the URL starting with http://______________of this “original site”?
-
Okay then it has not been deleted and you cannot chnage any URL like http://emilyturianointernship.wordpress.com/ to http://emilyturiano.wordpress.com/ therefore you have to export and import the content.
Export https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
Import https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ -
Now that I’ve exported it, what does this mean?
“When importing back into another blog, you’ll need to unzip the file and import each of the .xml files individually.”
-
Let’s ask Staff to assist you with sorting this out. I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. Hi emilyturiano,
Now that I’ve exported it, what does this mean?
“When importing back into another blog, you’ll need to unzip the file and import each of the .xml files individually.”Your exported content will arrive in a .zip file which contains .xml files inside.
It’s only possible to upload the individual .xml files so you will need to unzip the .zip file to access them. If you double click on the .zip file are you able to see the .xml files inside?
Upload each .xml file one at a time using the steps in this guide:
Let me know how you get on.
