Accidentally published a post

  I accidentally pressed publish before a post was ready. Is there a way to unpublish it and then publish again when it is ready? I don’t want to trash it and lose it.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  You could go back to your post and change it to a “draft”. Click on where it says “Change Status” and select the “Draft” option. Then you’ll notice it gives you the option to save the post as a draft or revert it to draft where you normally click to publish the post.

  Thanks, Evan. What happens to people who already received an email notification about the post? Will they get a new email when I really publish it? Will they get an error message when they click on the link? I don’t want to confuse people.

  They will get an error message if you make the post a draft after publication.

  Also, I looked at what you said to do, and although I see an option to change the status to Draft, I don’t see a place to click revert to draft.

  OK, well, it was 99% done so I will leave it as it is. Now I just will be more careful not to press Publish instead of Save. Sigh…. Thank you!

  Sure thing. You can always change and update the content of your blog posts after they’ve been published, and don’t necessarily have to revert it back to a draft. Also, if you’re viewing your blog on the WP Admin view, you won’t see the option to revert it back to draft, but you can just save it as a draft.

  Thank you, Evan. I know I can keep editing and updating. but once someone’s read the post, they’re not likely to return. I was hoping there was an easy way to retract and then resend it as a new post so that subscribers would get a second email. But I guess not, so I am just stuck on this one!

  I was viewing in WP Admin—what other way is there to edit a post? I use the Classic view—don’t like the beep beep one at all.

  You’re welcome. Those are the two options for publishing and editing posts that I was referring to…the classic WP Admin view and the “beep beep,” as you put it :)
