Account access
-
I am signed in. But to comment on a blog I follow I was asked to log in, and couldn’t remember my password. I tried to change it but each time was told whatever I had entered had been used before. I am still signed in and can use my account – I am very confused. And I can’t find a way to ask the site, as opposed to the forum. Help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi – What site was this happening on?
If you ever experience odd things like this it can help to clear your browser cache: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

I am/was logged into my WordPress account (I never log out) and was trying to comment to a WordPress blog I follow – but I’d opened the blog via a notif on gmail. I’ve sorted the password problem since posing the questions but still can’t understand how it could happen. The site wouldn’t let me comment because it said there was no record of an account with my email address (and yet I was logged in and my profile shows my email), and whenever I tried to change my password it told me I’d used the new password previously – which was definitely not true as I dreamed up new passwords each time and got, as you can imagine, increasingly frustrated! I’m ‘in’ now (though I was never ‘out’) with a new password, and have commented on the blog – but I’m worried about future glitches. I don’t like clearing my cache because I have a lot of things saved in order to save time. Including financial info and stuff re my publishing. But if you think that’s really necessary I suppose I should set aside a morning to do it.

What is the URL of the exact post you refer to?

https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/13193280/posts/1317735889 – but the only way I reached that just now was via my ‘blogs I follow’ feed and as I said, this morning I clicked on it via a gmail notif.

Hello – I see that you were able to comment on that post. Please check to see which email address is listed at wordpress.com/me/account/ and update if needed.

I checked. My email was correct and was the one I used when I opened the account and have never changed. I was able to comment on the post via my reading page. It was trying to read and then comment from the email notif that didn’t work. The email I use for WordPress is in fact a university router, not a full ISP – everything for that address feeds into my gmail inbox and usually works perfectly. I need different emails for various reasons but have never had this problem in the past!

It sounds like Gmail is opening a different browser than the one you are logged in with and the sign in credentials were not being entered correctly.

I think you’re right or at least partially right. I’ve been having problems with Firefox all week and that’s where I usually open both gmail and WP. So I’ve opened gmail on Chrome and it seems to be more stable. I need two browsers for work so this is a total pain but so long as I’m logged in etc. I can just rant and rave quietly at home! Thanks.
