Account access
-
Hello, I have a WordPress account that I have been using for 10 years, I log in nearly every day to write posts that are like journal entries, and I keep my site private. Yesterday when I tried to log in, it said I need to update my password for security reasons (I did not forget my password), and it sent a new password update link to the email associated to my account. However, I have not been able to find this email, as I created the account a long time ago. I do not have proof of ownership because I was on a free plan (so I cannot contact customer support either). I am therefore unable to recover my account, however I can provide proof that I own the account – for example, I can send titles of privately published blog posts or word-for-word excerpts of posts.
Is there anything I can try please? I am happy to pay for an upgraded plan if it means recovering the account or contacting human support. I am desperate to recover this account, as it holds all my memories and journal posts from the last 10 years, so it is very dear to me. Thank you very much -
Hey, I’m glad to help.
I can understand your situation and how deeply you’re connected with your site — especially when it’s been a part of your life for 10 years.
To start, could you please share the URL of your site? That’ll help me confirm whether it’s hosted on WordPress.com and locate the correct account, as I’m currently only seeing a newly created account under your email.
Once I have that, I’ll guide you on the best next step.

My account was hacked and I no longer have access to my 4 websites. I received the following message:

Request to change your account email
Looks like you’re trying to update the email address associated with your dcardiff WordPress.com account.
Current email address: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
New email address: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
If you made this request, you can safely ignore and delete this email.
If you did not request this change, please respond to this email immediately.
Thanks,
The WordPress.com teamHi Dennis,
I’m sorry it has to be like this, but I’ve set up two factor authentication for your website, and you’d be unable to access your website for now.
You told me you couldn’t continue your book promotion due to family issues, but you decided to give it out to someone else and ignored all my messages.
To gain full access to your website again, you’d pay me a sum of 300 USD, which is equivalent to 420 CAD.
I’m giving you 96 hours to get your payment ready and sent to my crypto wallet or I’d delete your website one after the other if you failed to do so.
This is not a joke. To show you how serious I’m, do well to tell me your least important website and I’d start deleting from there.
