Account closure mistake

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi guys, I’m hoping you can help?

I closed my WordPress account and blog last year. I forgot that I’d purchased another domain name with WordPress under that account.

I have received a notification that the domain will expire.
I want the domain but I can’t access it because I closed my account.

    Help!😬

  • What is the domain name you’re referring to?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Domain:
    Placestoeatlondon.com
I have the purchase receipt details.

  • That domain has never been registered or hosted here.

It might have been using the self-hosted WordPress software from https://wordpress.org but hosted elsewhere.

In this case though, you’ll need to contact your former hosting provider’s support to recover it.

My apologies, I wrote the post at 2am.
    It’s ‘placestoeatinlondon.co.uk.

It’s definitely with WordPress because I received a notification of expiration from here.

  • Hello there,

Many thanks for reaching back out.

placestoeatinlondon.co.uk is also not hosted with WordPress.com.

It looks like this is hosted with: https://www.tsohost.com/welcome/vidahost

    I hope this helps.

Hi there, It didn’t help. I had to contact Tucows who then sent me login details. The thing is, when I log in, it takes more to wordpress.com to create a new domain.

I don’t know what’s going on but I just want my domain back. It looks like wordpress still has it because the email came from WordPress automatic Inc.

This is what I received from a Tucows rep:

    Hello;
I have sent a password reset link to you – it is soon to follow this
email  and will have the appearance of coming from your reseller.

***Please note that the window that triggers the password reset also shows your username. Please make sure you write this down prior to resetting your password***
once you have the password, you  can make a tag change under ‘domain extras’ in the
    manage interface – https://manage.opensrs.net

p.s. here’s a list of the Nominet tags

    List of Registrars

Right after this, I received a password reset from WordPress

  • Right after this, I received a password reset from WordPress

That’s strange, but I think it may be a coincidence.

Are you able to work with the people you bought the domain and hosting from?

  • Also, for further reference, after staff has responded to a thread, the modlook tag is not necessary. We’ll see future updates.

I’m afraid I don’t know what a modlock tag is.

This is my first time ever on the WordPress forum.

I bought the domain from WordPress. I have a WordPress.com receipt of purchase.

Wordpress sent me a domain renewal email.

The reason why they sent me it was because I purchased it with WordPress.com.

  • I bought the domain from WordPress. I have a WordPress.com receipt of purchase.

Neither domain you mentioned has any records here; perhaps there’s been another typo?

Do you have an email receipt from us? If so, can you check that email address and confirm it matches the one listed here?
    https://wordpress.com/me/account

  • OK, our twitter folks received an email screenshot you sent there.

The domain is placestoeatlondon.co.uk (without “in”). That’s why we couldn’t find it, but having the right domain is a good start. We’ll check in with our domains team to see what the best past forward is in this case.

Also, I see you deleted your account. Can you please respond to the deleting confirmation to get that restored, so we can keep working with you til this is resolved?

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks for looking into it, I have restored the account.
    Hopefully this can sorted.

  • Hi there,

Although you have created a new account with the same email that was connected to the old account, the domain is still connected to your old, deleted account. So, we are working with the team internally to see if we could potentially move the domain over to your new account. We’ll keep you updated.

    Thank you!
